Week Seven: Sports Legends
Well, kiddies - we've reached the halfway point and have reached another Bar Tuesday milestone: a place so scary that half of us bailed on it an hour in and went back to our Week One bar again.
Say hello to Sports Legends Pub:

That's actually the only picture that I have from last night since I was a little hesitant to whip out my camera inside. Did I mention The Scary? We've been to creepy bars along the tour - I mean, the place we bailed to go to last night is trashy, but it's also fun. Sports Legends just wasn't - most of us were uncomfortable in there. I described it this way last night: this is the first time so far that I haven't felt welcome in a bar by the regulars. There was a very friendly homeless man there last night who was talking to us, but then a cab pulled up and took him away. Other than that, it didn't feel like our presence was appreciated. Hence the not taking pictures - I didn't feel right. I'll just have to paint a mental one, then!
My first thought when I walked inside? "Oh my God, I think I just walked into 1985." The entire place was covered in dark wood paneling and there were mullets and dangling earrings on guys. Randy told me to take note of the fact that his cold beer was not pulled out of a refrigerated case, but rather a cooler on the floor. Frito was afraid to put his mouth on the glass of his drink. I had a soda, but it was flatter than my elementary-school chest. There was a small outdoor area in the back, but we never made it out there to check it out. The place was a bar in one room and a game room in the attached room with 2 pool tables, a dart board, card tables, and a jukebox. Speaking of which:
Jukebox Report: I didn't venture in the room to check it out, but Paul played 14 songs, including the Bar Tuesday themes of Survivor by Destiny's Child [Paul's theme] and Don't Stop Believin' [unofficial theme]. When I was in there earlier, the other patrons had played Metallica and Rush, so when Paul's second selection of Britney Spears came on, one of the patrons actually had the bartender turn the music down. Yikes!
Golden Tee Count: 4 out of 7 Ironically, no Tee at Sports Legends, but there WAS a snack vending machine. Hmmm.
There's not much else to report since we left early, save for one last gem, which is what made me and Frito realize that maybe it was time to leave. First, Frito pointed out that there was some sort of a party going on since someone was carrying a cake. That everyone was eating with their hands. Then, I looked up to see a rather large man with no shirt on rubbing himself on a woman in cutoff leopard jean shorts. I think we had experience enough of the place at that point. Next!
Next week: The Whalen. It just sounds awesome, doesn't it?
Hi Pam!!! I was dicking around on line and found you, so hello!!! You know, I live right near the Whalen, and every time I pass it, I say, well, there is the Whalen. Sounds much more regal than it looks. One day I will go in there. Hope to see you at the reunion!

Hi Pam,
You're fun hee hee. Remember me? We met at TGI Friday's last year or so. We had a few good emails back and forth. Anyway, I've been reading your blog the last few days, it came up in a search when I was looking for something else, and I thought I should say hi. Hi!
Anyway, you and Tim are cool, fabulously cool, and hi...oh and your blog is fun. Bar Tuesdays is a fun idea. Awesome.
